WORLD CREATION
Development of a World Guide
World Guides help to set the parameters for where and when a story is taking place, along with the culture that surrounds it.
Consider the following when creating a believable world:
Is your world in the past, present or future?
Does your world relate to a specific culture or region you know of?
What key words would you search to learn more about the regions anthropology (people and culture) and archaeology (objects and structures)?
Is your world traditional, modern, or a blend of both?
What aspects are traditional or modern?
Have their been events that shaped the world's values, people, or culture?
Is the technology advanced (forward), did it stagnate at a certain point (stayed the same), or has it regressed (backwards)?
Are resources and money shared equally, is there some difference in what people have, is there a large divide between groups?
Does this world have magic and who can use it?
Does this world have a connection to a spiritual experience or beings?
Is the connection to magic and the spiritual unseen & mysterious, developed through training and study, or commonplace?
Are people or creatures with powers/enhancements non-existent, rare, commonplace?
Most importantly: Which parts of the culture are relevant to your character?
