In engineering class we practiced soldering as well as learning about electric circuits. We built an electric tree using wires, solder, a soldering iron, a usb cord, and led bulbs. We started by separating the base of the tree into 3 different colors, red, green, and orange, and also separated tree branches on the top of the tree. The we used a solder pot to have the green and red branches and trunks have solder already on them to make it easier to solder them later. Then we cut led bulbs at an angle in order to make the shorter side a negative charge to be connected to the green branches. The longer side of the led bulbs connected to the red branches to make a positive charge. The charges will then attract and create a circuit. If the led bulbs are touching the wires it will make a short circuit, and that is not good. The solder connects the led bulbs to wires to make a complete circuit, without the wires and bulbs touching. After testing to make sure every bulb lights up and changes colors, we used wire strippers to strip part of the usb cord off. Then we cut the 3 wires inside the usb cord off because they were unnecessary. Finally we connected the black wire to the green wire and the red wire to the other red wire. Then plugged the usb cord into the computers and watched the tree turn from red to green to blue.
