Basic conversational Spanish for health care workers or students. Emphasis on basic sentence structure, pronunciation and vocabulary used in health care setting.
Overview:
This is a 3-credit course of basic Spanish with emphasis on communication in different healthcare settings. There are no prerequisites for this course. Your level of Spanish is not a requisite. If you have (some) experience with the language, it is recommended that you focus on the vocabulary, pronunciation and communication. For those students with minimum or no previous experience with Spanish, this course offers a complete review all the basic structures.
Course Objectives:
Acquire and expand Spanish vocabulary related to health care.
Develop communicative skills using basic tenses to maintain a basic conversation in Spanish using medical and health-care related expressions and terminology.
Conduct basic interviews in Spanish within scenarios such as registration interviews, health histories, and physical assessments.
Apply elementary Spanish grammar in a contextual approach
Course Competences:
Recite Spanish words, using standard sound patterns and intonation.
State Spanish greetings, introductions and farewells to clients.
Use Spanish vocabulary in describing parts of the body.
Describe dates, times, and setting appointments in Spanish.
Explain and direct patients through routine medical procedures.
Use Spanish vocabulary to converse with or about family members.
Use basic Spanish questions in medical settings and situations.
Use Spanish vocabulary related to patient feeding, diet, and care.
Use Spanish vocabulary in describing specific types of medications and their use.
Describe medical conditions and their symptoms in Spanish.
Describe similarities and differences between Hispanic and Anglo health care culture
