Overview:
This is an introductory course of the Spanish language with a communicative approach
four basic language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You will be able to
communicate in Spanish basic ideas and interact with others. This course makes emphasis on
frequently used vocabulary and it also introduces grammar as a tool for effective
communication. The culture of Spanish-speaking countries is also a component of this course.
Course Objectives:
• Use elementary Spanish grammar and vocabulary in a contextual approach.
• Develop communicative skills in Spanish.
• Master common vocabulary and basic grammar structures through listening and writing.
• Expand your cultural awareness on the Spanish-speaking communities around the
world.
Course Competencies:
• Demonstrate comprehension of written and oral passages that include biographical
information, basic questions and descriptions, short narratives, brief dialogues, survival
vocabulary, and current events.
• Compose written passages that include biographical information, basic questions and
descriptions, short narratives, brief dialogues, survival vocabulary, and current events.
• Ask and answer oral questions to satisfy basic needs, express biographical information,
provide short descriptions, and participate in very simple conversations.
• Identify cultural aspects of the target language.
