General Information:
Some Spanish classes require students to have completed specific "prerequisites": a grade of C or better in the previous course or permission of Department or Division.
Completion of prerequisites within the last three years is required.Â
Students can request to be placed in a different level if they feel their level of the language is either too advanced or they have already taken advanced courses in High School over the past two years.
You can request a Placement Exam if any of the following applies to you:
Your first language is Spanish
You have lived in a Spanish-speaking country
You have served on a mission for your Church in a Spanish-speaking country
You have taken AP Spanish Language in High School
Your proficiency of Spanish is at an intermediate level
The process of placement:
Send an email to the contact below explaining the reason for your interest in a placement exam.
First, you will be pre assessed on your speaking skills. This short assessment will be conducted by phone or by virtual meeting with a Spanish faculty. It consists on a short conversation in Spanish.
If your oral proficiency level is not strong enough, you may be asked to take an additional written test.
If your oral proficiency level is satisfactory, you will be given permission to enroll in a higher level. This process can be completed within the department.
Any Spanish faculty member will be willing to advise you on which course is better for you.
