For NCEA internally assessed assignments, the due date is the due date. No extensions will be given unless a medical certificate or a special circumstance is provided and approved by the Qualifications and Assessment Manager beforehand. For short-term justified absences (i.e. a few days) the student should not expect an extension, particularly if plenty of time has been offered for an assessment. Extensions will not be offered to cover weekend absences e.g. illness, holiday, sporting events.
Extensions will not be given to students the day before an assessment is due. If a student is absent on the due date of the submission, this must still be uploaded/emailed to the teacher on the due date with a paper copy submitted on the first day the student returns to school. If this is not done, it will be seen as a Not Achieved due to no submission.
If students are going away from school on a school-related trip or school-related work experience, it is their responsibility to ensure that the assignment is completed and delivered by the due date or by a time arranged with the teacher. This should be pre-arranged (i.e. before the student goes away on the school-related trip/activity). Where a student misses a significant amount of teaching and learning time towards an assessment, an extension date may be considered but should not be expected. Otherwise, if it is a short-term absence (i.e. a few days) the student should expect to hand in the assessment at the same time as everyone else, particularly if plenty of time has been offered for the assessment. Students are responsible for making their own extension request to the Assessment Office as soon as possible but no later than 2 school days upon their return to arrange a later sitting or extended due date where appropriate.
Extensions will not be given due to loss or failure of an electronic device, students are expected to save their work onto more than one device, online, or their drive on the school’s network.
