Qualifications at all levels including University Entrance, have literacy and numeracy requirements.
The Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy requirement applies to all NCEA levels, students must meet the following criteria:
Literacy requirement - minimum of 10 credits through specified standards - these are offered in a range of subjects.
Numeracy requirement - minimum of 10 credits through specified standards - these are offered in a range of subjects.
University Entrance has an additional literacy requirement that students can start aiming towards at the beginning of Year 12:
Literacy requirement - minimum of 10 credits through specified Level 2 and 3 standards (5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing) - these are offered in a range of subjects.
For standards that meet both reading and writing requirements it is possible to split the standard to fulfil the literacy requirement.
Numeracy requirement - as above.
Students can check which standards within their course of study contributes to literacy and numeracy by checking the course statement for each of their subjects.
