.To learn how to safely use strength training equipment (free weights, stability balls,
medicine balls, punching bag) safely and in an age appropriate manner
.To practice proper weight room procedures and etiquette
.To practice proper strength training technique
.To learn the names location, and correctly perform at least one exercise for the 10 major muscle groups in class
Objectives for personal fitness activities:
. To be introduced to less familiar personal exercise activities including agility training (dot
drills, tinikling (Philippine game/dance), ladders, jump rope, double dutch), yoga, Pilates,
step aerobics, Wii fit, fitness DVDs
. To plan a week's worth of activities for a personal fitness plan using the FITT Principle
. To implement their personal fitness plan noting what worked well for them, and what
were some of the barriers to implementation (e.g., not enough times, etc.)
The F.I.T.T. Principle:
Frequency, or how often (days per week);
Intensity, or how much weight
Time, or how many sets and reps (repetitions)
Type, or the specific exercise being done (e.g., push-ups)
