STANDARD H2 OF THE MAINE LEARNING RESULTS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
"Students design a fitness program from established goals which address five health-related fitness components and applies the frequency, intensity, time, and type (FITT) guidelines."
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
1. What are the health-related fitness components?
cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition (optional
testing, the link below will show you how to find your BMI with an online calculator at home, and explain what your score means).
2. What tests address these components?
Cardiovascular endurance: PACER and the mile walk-run
Muscular strength and endurance: sit-ups and push-ups per minute
Flexibility: V-sit stretch
3. How will I know how I did?
Refer to the side bar for Fitness Testing and Standards by Age.
4. How will I make my fitness goals?
Using the results from your fitness tests and the Healthy Fitness Standards, decide what you would like to
score on the tests when they are given again in the spring.
5. What will I have to do to meet them?
I will make a realistic plan using the FITT Principle, and follow it.
