1. What are the basic skills needed to play this sport?
(dribble, chest pass, bounce pass, lay-up, set shot, pivot, basic defense)
2. Demonstrate these skills in drills or a game.
3. What are 5-8 basic rules in this sport?
(can not double dribble, travel, or carry; or foul)
Why is each one important?
(to move the ball you must dribble or pass it; safety)
5. What are 3-5 sportsmanship courtesies that should be practiced by everyone?
(BE safe, BE honest, BE helpful, BE fair, BE knowledgeable about the rules
and play by them)
6. Define each of the 5 skill related fitness components.
(agility-can change position in space quickly; balance-can maintain the position
you want without falling; co-ordination-two or more senses/body parts working
together; power-speed and strength working together; reaction time-how quickly
you can react to something; speed- how fast you can go)
7. How do they relate to this sport?
(defense; safety; dribbling, passing, catching, shooting; jumping, lay-up; defense;
how fast you can move down court)
In classes this year (2022-2023), students will self select the level of basketball they would like to learn at based upon their prior basketball experience. Mr. Drinkwater works with the more experienced students, while Ms. Schaper works with the less experienced. There are check lists for ech level to guide the students in their learning.
