Adapted PE

Adapted Physical Education at Bonny Eagle Middle School consists of three separate components; a large group class. Membership in these classes is determined by IEP recommendations, test results from the Ohio State University Scale of Inter-Gross Motor Assessment (OSU-SIGMA) and Brockport Physical Fitness Test, or in some cases by teacher recommendations with parental approval. Students may be in any or all of theses classes, and also may or may not be mainstreamed into regular physical education classes as determined through the IEP process. Alignment of this process for the K-12 spectrum is currently being reviewed.

The large group class focuses on pre-teaching and adapting the large group activities taught in general physical education classes (e.g., games, racket skills, etc.), warm-ups and cool-downs with necessary adaptations focusing on the needs of the class membership, and group organization skills. The class meets twice weekly for 30 minutes, and most of these students are mainstreamed into a general physical education class.

The small group class focuses on working with students with more intense needs, and is more individualized. These students are not mainstreamed into a general physical education.

Both of these classes work on lifelong movement and activities at their individual levels.
