Google Groups is a communication and collaboration tool from Google that allows users to create and participate in online discussion forums and email-based groups.
Key Features:
Group Email Lists: A single email address (e.g., xxxxx@blair.edu) that sends messages to all group members at once
Shared Discussions: Members can post messages and replies to a central forum-style message board
Access Control: Groups can be set as public, private, or restricted to certain domains (like an organization or school)
Collaboration Tool: Useful for sharing Google Docs, Calendars, and other content with an entire group
It creates a blair.edu email address
The group gets its own email, e.g. team@blair.edu. Anyone with permission can send to or receive from this address.
It creates a shared online space
Members can read past messages, search the archive, and join discussions through the Groups website.
It gives you control over membership and permissions
You decide who can join, post messages, view conversations, or manage the group.
It can act as a collaborative tool
You can turn it into a Collaborative Inbox for assigning, tracking, and resolving messages, or keep it as a standard discussion list.
