Google Chrome is the preferred browser for Blair accounts. When a computer is deployed to faculty or staff, the Chrome browser is logged into a profile connected to the user's Blair account.
Google Chrome profiles are like separate spaces or “accounts” within your Chrome browser. Each profile keeps its own:
Bookmarks
Passwords
Browsing history
Extensions
Saved settings
Think of them like different "desktops" for different people — or different parts of your life (e.g., work and personal).
Privacy: Each person can have their own profile, keeping data separate.
Organization: You can create different profiles for different purposes (e.g., one for work and one for home).
Convenience: No need to constantly log in and out of accounts — just switch profiles
Look for a small icon in the very top of the right of your screen. It is ABOVE the larger icon for your Blair account.
Click on that small icon.
You should see a notice that "This profile is managed".
If you are prompted to sign in again, sign in with your Blair email account.
If you are not signed in, follow the steps below.
Click the Google Chrome icon on your desktop or taskbar.
A new Chrome window will open.
If no one is signed in, you may see a “Welcome to Chrome” screen or a prompt asking you to sign in.
If prompted:
Click the “Sign in” or “Get Started” button.
If you don’t see a prompt, do this:
Click the profile icon in the top-right corner (a circle with a silhouette or initial).
Click “Turn on sync” or “Sign in to Chrome.”
A new sign-in window will appear.
Type your Gmail address (or Google account email), then click Next.
Enter your password, then click Next again.
Chrome will ask if you want to turn on sync.
Click “Yes, I’m in” to sync bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings to your Google Account.
Chrome is now personalized with your Google Account.
Your bookmarks, extensions, and themes will begin syncing (if sync is turned on).
Your profile picture or first initial will now appear in the upper-right corner.
Click the Google Chrome icon on your desktop or taskbar to open it.
(If it's already open, continue to the next step.)
Look at the top-right corner of the Chrome window.
You’ll see a profile icon, which might look like:
A circle with your profile picture
A letter (like “A” for Alex)
A generic person icon
Click the profile icon.
A dropdown menu will appear showing:
Your current profile
Other user profiles
A button labeled “Add”
A button labeled “Guest”
In the dropdown list, you'll see other profiles by name (e.g., "Work", "Personal", etc.).
Click the name of the user/profile you want to switch to.
Note: When you click on another profile, a new Chrome window will open using that profile.
If you don’t see the profile you want:
Click the “Add” button at the bottom of the dropdown.
Choose “Sign in” to connect a Google account, or continue without one.
Follow the on-screen steps to create and name the new profile.
You can customize each Chrome profile with:
A unique name
A distinct color
A profile picture
This makes it easier to recognize and switch between them.
