It has been a fun week for me to share a surprise that I found at the local Asian store. The kids were very interested in the learning process and many made wonderful connections during our class discussions. It was a shame that I was not able to provide samples for the kids to try. I could only encourage them to try if they encounter this special fruit in the future.

We have been learning about Chinese New Year since last quarter. We have covered a legend about the beast 年Nián that came out on Chinese New Year's Eve to feast on people and animals. We have explored different versions of this legend and expanded our understanding of many customs and celebrations stemmed from this legend.

We have worked hard to learn many songs for our special Chinese New Year Assembly. We also wrapped up our drawing project. I have picked out some very thoughtful works. Our art teacher Mrs. Cox will be the final judge to help me choose the best ones for our bulletin board by the library. I am hoping to take some of the drawings to the Ed Center for a special display to celebrate Chinese New Year with the ASD staff.

I have a station for Chinese Yoyo in our annual Winter Carnival. Hope to see many of you this Saturday. Please check the website for new updates. I am going to try hard to add learning resources and fun cultural facts on a regular basis.
