This is our busy week to finish our rehearsing for our Chinese New Year assembly performances. I am really pleased with the outcome. Many kids have such big smiles when we rehearsed their favorite songs. Some of the younger kids kept singing and humming when they were working on the Chinese Zodiac animals coloring sheets. I was so happy that so many of them loved the songs that I picked out for this year.
5th graders had a little time to rehearse the dragon dance in very limited space. I have complete confidence that they will do very well when we put the music and the dragon dance together. We are so very lucky that our music teacher Dr. Congdon speaks Chinese and works so hard to incorporate the language and the culture into the music curriculum as well.
Some of the classes have met our 2016 new Chinese Class member on Friday. The rest of the school will meet this special member next week.
I also have just finished the display window by the gym. The most special item to me is the ink stone by the lion's head. It is with very special and intricate carving of a dragon. My father bought it for me when he visited the most famous place in China that produces the best ink stones. There are also so currency that were from my trip to China in 2010. There are some Chinese Yuan and some Hong Kong dollars. I will explain more about why there are more than one currency used in the cultural facts.
Check out some of the new cultural facts pages I have added this week.
