Chinese Yoyo

Chinese yoyo (also called diabolo) is a traditional toy that entertains kids and also trains coordination and great patience. The particular model that I have in class for teaching is a special design with a self-rotating axel by a company (Sundia) based in Taiwan. It is called Fly-bearing long axle model.

I was lucky to learn to play from a national champion from Taiwan who visited Anchorage a few years ago. I was told that this model was the easiest for beginners because the patent design (an axle that rotates) provides kids additional time for fancy tricks. The axle rotates to one direction only. The white stripe on the yoyo helps the kids identify how to set up correctly, depending on which hand is more dominant.
