Our goal in physical education at Birchwood ABC is to use sports, games, and movement as the platform for character development. Both personal and social skills are practiced in a physical environment. We try to find the value in winning and losing, success and failure, as positive learning experiences.
Please use this website and the tabs and drop down menus above, to access the general information of how PE works and what to expect throughout the year. Any questions? Please contact olson_kirk@asdk12.org.
The first week of September, 1st-5th grades learn how to correctly fill out their logs before it is sent home. Kindergartners will have a log sent home with a parent letter on back. After September, it is the student/parent responsibility to get a log [activitylog], or students are greatly encouraged to make their own log on the back of a used sheet of paper.
We participate during the fall challenge, September October, and November, and also in the spring challenge for February, March, and April. For more information about Healthy Futures, visit healthyfuturesak.org.
Birchwood ABC is a participant in the Kids Heart Challenge (formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart). This effort is to raise money for the American Heart Association. Usually in the month of January.
Each Spring, our PTA provides funds for our 5th and 6th grade students to participate in this program. Our students participate in both the classroom experience during PE time, and the pool experience at Chugiak High School. More info to come in the spring.
