Professional Journals Online
Did you know that many professional journals are available online through the Gale databases? For example:
Teacher Librarian (full text from September 1, 1998 to present)
School Library Journal (full text from March 1, 2000 to present)
Voice of Youth Advocates (full text from August 1, 2010 to present)
Knowledge Quest (full text from May 1, 2007 to present)
If you are looking for specific articles from journals we do not have through the databases, we can request scans through interlibrary loan.
Streaming Video
Swank K-12 Streaming is an excellent source of feature films and documentaries. There are 200+ films already included in our subscription and more can be added upon request, as funds permit.
Movies can be shown in class or assigned for students to watch at home.
See Getting Started with Swank for more info.
Kanopy is excellent for independent films, documentaries, educational television, and more.
Kanopy is available through Robbins Library (for Arlington residents only) and the Boston Public Library (everyone who lives or works in Massachusetts is eligible). Users receive a limited number of "play credits" per month.
The AHS Library has a small number of institutional accounts we can loan staff to use in order to show Kanopy videos in class. Let us know if you're interested!
