Library Databases: "The Deep Web"
Databases allow the Park Center community to access magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias, books, scholarly journals, television/radio transcripts, maps, pictures, current issues, country statistics, and audio/video clips. They provide searchable content from published works, written by experts in their fields, and include citation information. Free access to some databases is available throughout Minnesota through E-Library Minnesota (ELM). The databases in the list below are paid by subscription.

Hennepin County Library Databases
Many additional databases are available to those with a Hennepin County library card. One notable database is NoveList Plus, which allows users to search among hundreds of thousands of popular fiction and readable nonfiction titles, and also retrieve author read-alikes, book lists, book discussion guides, and more.
International, national, regional, and local papers including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post, The Guardian, El Norte, Jerusalem Post, and South China Morning Post. Detailed indexing covers not only complete bibliographic information but also subjects, companies, people, products, and geographic areas and provides access to detailed information on the arts, sports, business, and popular culture. Even items such as editorials, editorial cartoons, obituaries, and letters to the editor from well-known people are indexed.
TeachingBooks.net is an easy-to-use website that adds a multimedia dimension to the reading experiences of children's and young adult books. Includes thousands of resources about fiction and nonfiction books used in the K–12 environment, with every resource selected to encourage the integration of multimedia author and book materials into reading and library activities.

Includes 79,000 reference articles from acclaimed publications like American Decade; 15 million periodical and newspaper articles from the New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, and many others; 4,200 primary sources; 100,000 multimedia records, including charts, graphs, maps and table; and video and audio content from NBC, NPR and many other respected sources.

Points of View Reference Center
A full-text database designed to provide students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. The database provides more than 280 topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument), counterpoint (opposing argument), and Critical Thinking Guide. Topics covered include: affirmative action, cloning, DNA profiling, HIV/AIDS status disclosure, immigration, Iraq, Israel & the Palestinians, Katrina and FEMA response, nuclear proliferation, separation of church and state, standardized testing, stem cell research, tax cuts, voting machines, and many more.
