This course examines the due process proceedings of the criminal justice system. Particular attention is given to the problems of arrest; search and seizure; self-incrimination; right to counsel; bail; speedy trial; discovery; plea bargaining; double jeopardy; and sentencing. Students will be expected to prepare and present an opening statement, direct and cross examination, and a closing argument of a hypothetical case which will be used for the mock trial at the end of the semester.
