Beginning in the 1800s, Europe surged ahead as a world power through Industrialization leading them to use a system of Imperialism to exert their control over other parts of the world. This land grab would cause the problems of the next century (WWI, WWII, Cold War, Middle East Conflict) due to Europe's greed and lack of compassion for those they controlled.
