Carolyn M. Everett

February 12, 1948 - October 6, 2022

Carolyn Marie Everett died October 6, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, from injuries she sustained in a fall.

She was born February 12, 1948, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Dorothy (Rea) and Clarence Everett. Carolyn lived with her parents on a farm near Nodaway. After her father’s death, she and her mother moved into town. She attended school in Nodaway and Villisca, graduating in 1966.

Carolyn volunteered at Matura in Corning, Iowa, and then went to work at Innovative Industries in Creston, Iowa, for several years until her retirement.  She then started going to Iowa Focus Connect Day Hab in Creston. She made many friends at both places.  She loved to travel and went to California, South Dakota, Kansas City, and Council Bluffs. She liked to go to the races at Adams County Speedway. She enjoyed watching college football, the NFL, and Hallmark movies. Carolyn participated in bowling, track and field, softball skills and team bocce for Special Olympics; she loved getting her ribbons and medals. 

Carolyn moved to Country Haven in Corning, Iowa in 2008, and lived there for about a month. She then moved to Westgate and later moved to one of the Chance/Choice group homes in 2010. At the time of her passing, Carolyn lived at the Choice 6 house in Corning with roommates Charlotte Agee and Georgia Hascall.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Corning.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her uncle who lived with them, and multiple cousins. She was survived by many cousins; her roommates Charlotte Agee and Georgia Hascall; her Choice 6 staff, Kathy Weed, Brandon Goodwin, Dena O’Brien, Karen Johnson, and Mary Fleharty; her Choice Peers and staff; her Day Hab peers and staff; and her legal representatives, Susan Ryon, General POA, and Shellie Weed, Medical POA. Carolyn will be remembered as quiet, sweet, and nice.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Nodaway Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Choice, Inc. 600 8th St, Corning, Iowa 50841 for Special Olympics equipment and activities.
