Anita Smith (neé Mary Anita Clark)

Mary “Anita” Smith, age 64, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Anita Smith was born November 7, 1947, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was the daughter of Donald and Cleta (Gilbert) Nissen. Anita graduated from Villisca High School with the class of 1966 and was later united in marriage to Floyd Smith. Anita lived most of her life in Red Oak where she worked for Pamida, CDS, Vista Gardens Nursing Home, and at one time, the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Anita loved animals, gardening, cooking, baking, and watching rodeos.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents and her brother,Tom Clark. Survivors include her son: Michael J. “Jim” Smith and wife Jean of Lucedale, Mississippi; daughter: Tammi Penton of Cumberland, Iowa; grandchildren: Jesse Waites of Boston, Massachusetts; Kristi Ostavitz and husband Joseph of Lucedale, Mississippi; Dawn McCroru of Atlantic, Iowa; and Joe Wagner of Seattle, Washington; nieces and nephews: Tammi Redd of Coburg, Iowa; Tony Clark and wife Jennifer of Stanton, Iowa; Robert Smith of Clarinda, Iowa; Amy McQueen of Clarinda, Iowa; and Julie Streitenberger of Blanchard, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Brett White officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family.
