Thomas (Tom) W. Doty

Thomas W. "Tom" Doty, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly in Kansas City on December 3, 2009, at the age of 61. He was born on November 8, 1948, in Tecumseh, Nebraska, to LaVere and Norma (Wagner) Doty. Tom was a 1966 graduate of Clarinda High School in Clarinda, Iowa, and a graduate of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He was a member of the Villisca High School Class of 1966 in sixth grade.

Tom moved from Tecumseh to Kansas City in 1985 and was employed as Warehouse Manager for Warehouse1 in Kansas City. He was a former member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Tom was active as a member of the board of directors for the Hope Care Center, and a member of the Landmark Education Group, both in Kansas City. He enjoyed collecting many different things and refurbishing Victorian homes. He especially loved his family.

Tom was survived by his mother Norma Doty of Beatrice, Nebraska; brother-in-law Don Kempkes of Lincoln; two nieces, Jennifer (Patrick) Dugan of Beatrice and Sandra (Cory) Micanek of Omaha; great-nieces and great-nephews Brittany, Delsea, Benjamin, Natalie, McKenzie, Malorie, Elizabeth and Grace Dugan of Beatrice, and Emma and Sara Micanek of Omaha; and his special aunt Irene Diener of Beatrice. Tom was preceded in death by his father, LaVere Doty; his sister, Deborah Kempkes; and a great-nephew, Jacob Dugan.

Visitation was held on Monday evening, December 7, 2009, at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice. Funeral services were scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on December 10, 2009, at the funeral home with the Rev. Kelly Karges officiating. Interment was at the Vesta Cemetery in rural Tecumseh.

A memorial was established to the Hope Care Center.
