Song With No Words

I wrote this in July, 1999, based on the old poem "Yesterday upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh how I wish he'd go away." My grandmother liked that one.

Lyrics

Here’s a little song that you haven’t heard.

That’s mainly because it hasn’t got any words.

But it will keep searching and maybe some day

It will find something useful or important to say.

Until that day comes we will just have to wait.

All we have is a melody, and it’s not so great.

But the rhythm’s ok, and the tempo is nice.

As for some words, so far none will suffice.

It all started out as a different thing.

I just sat down to play, not expecting to sing.

But then this came out, and now I must say

That sometimes I wish it would just go away.

So there’s a little song you still haven’t heard.

That’s mainly because it still hasn’t got words.

It remains incomplete, and maybe that’s best.

Now I’ll leave it to you to make up the rest.
