Happy Song

in February, 2006 I was thinking that many of the songs I had written were complaining about something, and maybe that was the wrong attitude. So I set out to write a happy song. When it was half finished I realized that I had stolen much of it from the Rev. Gary Davis' Oh Lord, How Happy I Am. But then I added a bridge and decided it was mine after all.

This was recorded at Strings, Emeryville CA on December 13, 2006.

Lyrics

Oo-eee I’m happy today.

Nothin’ but good things comin’ my way.

I feel so good and I’m happy to say

Oo-eee I’m happy today.

Oo-eee I’m feelin’ so fine.

I feel this way most all of the time.

You know there might be trouble but it won’t be mine.

Oo-eee I’m feelin’ so fine.

Oo-eee I’m a happy guy,

Standing here ‘neath the sun and the sky.

Gonna live every day until I die.

Oo-eee I’m a happy guy.

Oo-eee here’s lookin’ at you.

I’m thinkin’ you could be happy too.

Give it a try, it’s easy to do, and

Oo-eee look at happy you.

Happy is my way, it could be your way,

We could make it our way any old day.

If happy was our way we could make a new way

To live, so, hey, what do you say?

Oo-eee we could feel so good,

Feel just as good as we knew we could.

We’d be the happiest people in the neighborhood.

Oo-eee we could feel so good.

Oo-eee we could feel so grand.

Livin’ each day the best that we can,

Lendin’ each other a helpin’ hand.

Oo-eee we could feel so grand.

Happy is my way, it could be your way

We could make it our way any old day.

If happy was our way we could make a new way

To live, so, hey, what do you say?

Oo-eee I’m happy today.

Nothin’ but good things comin’ my way.

I feel so good and I’m happy to say

Oo-eee I’m happy today.
