Don't Tell Me
This is about no one in particular, but probably someone you know. It's from November 2010. The recording is version 2, as of October, 2013.
Lyrics
Back when I was young, it seems not so very long ago,
I thought I had it figured and I told everybody so.
There were so many things I knew I was gonna do
And I was oh so happy just to share them all with you.
I could talk about how everything was gonna be so grand
Just as soon as I had finished with my latest plan.
I couldn't stop imagining how fine it all would be
Until a good friend slowed me down one day and said to me.
You know these things you're talking 'bout, well they haven't happened yet,
And talking 'bout 'em's 'bout as close as you will ever get
Until you do the work you know you're gonna need to do
To turn all that hot air into some dreams that can come true. So
Don't tell me what you're gonna do, show me what you've done.
That fantasy is real to you, I'm sure you're having fun, but
You really haven't got a clue, so get a grip there son, and
Don't tell me what you're gonna do, show me what you've done.
I'm hoping that events like that won't happen anymore.
Wannabes and gonnabes are such an awful bore.
The only thing that's real is what's real, there’s nothing else.
So if you are not doing it, please keep it to yourself and
Don't tell me what you're gonna do, show me what you've done.
That fantasy is dear to you, I'm sure it's lots of fun, but
You’ve lots to do to make it true. Why haven’t you begun?
Don't tell me what you're gonna do, show me what you've done.
