Knock At Midnight
This song is an experiment with a new 8 track Zoom recording board. It makes being the whole band a bit easier. But it really needs a real band.
My partner, Lezlie Kinyon, is among other things, a poet. From time to time I have tried to turn one of her poems into a song, but with little success. She writes blank verse. It usually doesn't rhyme, and I can never find the rhythm. But when she read one she had written after listening to a PRI interview about artistic freedom with a musician from Burma, I thought maybe I had a chance. Here is the link to the program:

“Before, I wouldn’t be dare to talk to you like this,” he said during our interview. “After this program is online, the government guy will be knock on the door—knock-knock-knock—and ‘Can I ask you a question, can you come with us for a moment?’ And then you know like [snaps] 45-years sentence. ... Aha! Rhythm.
The song is an arrangement based on her poem. I've included it, with her permission, following the song lyrics. We dedicate this to Pussy Riot and all others who are under attack.
Lyrics
Knock knock knock. He said “Open the door.
“I must ask some questions. Then ask more.
“Tell no lies. Tell no lies. Tell no lies.
“Open the door.”
Knock knock knock. She said “Don't open the door.
“They ask no questions. Don't open the door.
“Tell no truth. Tell no truth. Tell no truth.
“Don't open the door.”
Knock knock knock. Open the door.
Knock knock knock. Open the door.
Knock knock knock. They said “Open the door.
“We have some questions. Open the door.”
Asking those answers. Asking those lies. Asking those truths.
Open the door.
There is no safety in silence. Open the door.
There is no safety in silence.
There is no safety in silence.

Knock knock knock
He says:
Open the door
Need to ask some questions
Then, ask some more
Tell me the truth
Tell the truth
Tell the truth
Open the door
Knock knock knock
He says:
Open the door
Knock knock knock
She says:
Don’t open the door
Tell no lies tell no truths
Tell me the truth
Tell the truth
Tell the truth
Open the door
Knock knock knock
Open the door
Asking those questions
Asking those lies
Asking those truths
Open the door
Knock knock knock
Tell me the truth
Tell the truth
Tell the truth
Open the door
She says:
There is no safety in silence
Open the door
