News of the First Community Orchard
Wow ...
<<< this is Camberwell Community Orchard in Sept. 2011 :))
I recently (quite by chance) got in touch with two old colleagues, both intrepid & brilliant community activists who were right there at the beginnings, supporting the creation of all sorts of wonderful projects we started, and are still there, decades later, doing amazing, constant, perennial work for the community.
** This is a big appreciation to those people ** It is thanks to them that we have all the beauty that still exists wherever the bulldozers of over-'development' try to reach (which is everywhere).
And these are pictures of the first community orchard I ever helped to set up, and it was great to finally translate the article I wrote in 2008, yesterday, and add it to our wonderful ever-expanding Integral Permaculture Designers Manual

This is one of my favorite pictures ...
you can see here just how much cement surrounds this brilliant green jewel
& how healthy & big the trees are
- it looks like they're bursting out of the little fence!
There's a mixed blessing in the renewed interest in the orchard recently ...
because the council want to build a new library
& guess where they propose to do so?
Yep, bulldoze the trees!
