Sound System

As you can see from the rear view you have ample connectivity as well as WiFi, Bluetooth and Ethernet.

The sound can be sourced from all these inputs.

As for the output you have 7.2ch 150Wx7

The sound is very impressive for this AV receiver. It has excellent bass and the clarity and detail are very good.

This is designed to provide via HDMI2.0 (input and output) 4K video

HDCP 2.2 input and output makes makes this unit a very desirable piece of kit.

Dolby Atmos or DTS:X are not supported but for me that is not a requirement at present. We have to wait to see if Dolby Atmos does become very popular.

Audio decoders can decode the following: Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats.

Audio supports the following MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV192k, FLAC 192k, ALAC, AIFF and DSD (2.8MHz).

The Sony STR-DN860 can hook up via bluetooth to a pair of bluetooth headphones. This was very easy to setup but you have to read the instructions. The audio quality was good over bluetooth. Sony’s uses a new transmission type (LDAC tech), which is gives 3x the data transmission rate over bluetooth.

As you can see from the Sound Menu (via a web browser) you can configure a variety of settings to help with the speaker combinations and sounds levels etc.

The calibration system which is accurate enough will compensate for speaker positioning.
