S/PDIF

Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format:

On a PC, the audio is stored as a digital value. Using S/PDIF the signal can be transmitted digitally to avoid any degradation and additional noise that may occur when transmitting an analogue signal.

The signal is transmitted over either a coaxial cable with RCA connectors or a fiber optic cable using a TOSLINK cable.
