02. Richard Angus c1523 [2]

INTRODUCTION [1]

RICHARD ANGUS lived in Dilston, Northumberland, England., will dated 25th December 1604

Notes for RICHARD ANGUS:

Tantallon Castle is located 3 miles south-east of North Berwick in Scotland. Built by William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas, it passed to the Earls of Angus, his illegitimate son and descendants. It sits atop a cliff face opposite The Bass, looking out onto the Firth of Forth. Now a ruin, it is in the care of Historic Scotland.

The Angus Family Tree tree compiled by the Rev Richard Pengilly in 1878 starts with Alexander and Richard only appears as a note

"Richard Angus who was a farmer at Dilston in 1603 under the Earl of Derwentwater was probably a member of the same family -see Cox's Memoirs p x 1"

[nb. I have a copy of the will of a Richard Angus of Dilston written 25 Dec 1604. Unfortunately there is no mention of an Alexander nor of Alexander's son George. There is mention of a daughter Agnes a brother Nathan and Nathan's children and many more people are named including his wife Alice. From the Dilston Court Rolls we find that Alice [widow] was licensed to brew & run a lodging house at Dilston in 1605. I do not know if this is the same Richard or how, or if, Alexander and Richard are related. If anyone has more information please make contact. [contact details on Introduction page] According to Pengilly it was Alexander who fled from Scotland with the Earl of Angus in 1584. HA]

A possible relation of RICHARD ANGUS [2] is ALEXANDER ANGUS [3]

I draw the reader's attention to some research done by Elsdon Watson. HA
