2014 Walks

This is the set of 2014 Walks - our members should receive an email or paper copy with contact numbers for the walks, for privacy reasons these are not published on the website, and anyone wanting to come along on a walk is asked to send an email to fenedge.footpathgroup@gmail.com which will be communicated to the walk organiser.

For planning reasons most organisers prefer more than one weeks notice if you'd like to join the walk.

18^th January 2014

A morning walk of 6.5 miles. Meet at Cottenham Church at 9:30am. Finish by 1:00 pm. Please contact the email address above if you wish to join us.

Quanea Hill. 5 ½ miles Approx. Three and a quarter hours

Meet at 9.30 a.m in Prickwillow, in the lay-by at the junction of the B 1382 and the B 1104.

Bring a “Coffee break.”

An 8-9 mile walk starting at 9:30 from the Park & Ride car park, St Ives. This can be reached by guided bus or car. Meet at the seating area which is opposite the bus stop. Alternatively park in bay D5. A shortcut to the walk can be made if required reducing it to 6 miles. Bring a packed lunch.

Meet at CVC to leave at 09.25 am for Car share

Meet at Mepal at 10 am by the War Memorial, High Street (signposted to the Post office and Store)

This is a circular walk of about 8 miles. There is very little shelter on this walk and it can be muddy, but it is an enjoyable walk in the Fens and along the Hundred Foot Bank, taking in Gault Hole, a small local Nature Reserve, and the Ouse washes.

This is about a 9 mile circular walk starting at Arrington along part of the Clopton Way via the deserted medieval village and East Hatley. Meet at Church End, Arrington (grid reference TL 326504) at 10 am or at CVC at 9.15 to share transport. For those of you with Sat Nav the post code is SG8 0BH. There is a layby by the church and more parking at the end of Church End. Bring a packed lunch. (If 9 miles is too far there is a convenient short cut to reduce the distance by a couple of miles). The walk has no serious hills.

Weekend away in Sherringham

18^th October 2014

A short walk, 6 miles, over fen pasture land, skirting Anglesey Abbey and by the side of Quy Water.

A14 junction 35, turn on to the B1102 to Swaffham Bulbeck. At the cross roads in Stow cum Quy turn left into Station Road. After half a mile, parking for 6 cars, further parking in 100 yds.

Meet at car parking at 10:00.

15^th November 2014

A 7 mile walk (with potential short cut to 6 miles) through Hildersham and surrounding area with some fabulous views, taking approx 3.5 hours. Most of the walk is reasonably easy going, but there is one long uphill stretch (60metres altitude change) and occasional muddy areas. Unfortunately there are no facilities apart from possibly the pub at the end, but there are plenty of hedges and wooded stretches. Packed lunch, hot drink, waterproof footwear and wind-proof clothing highly recommended.
