Late August - District Popcorn kickoff
Kernel creates a timeline of all events described below.
Committee decides on selling incentives.
Pizza party for highest show and sell.
Pizza bowling party for highest average take order for den.
Giftcards for highest sellers.
September
Organize with the den leaders for doing show and sell
When? (Best time seems to be 10am to 3pm on Saturday)
Where? (Sears Hardware, JoAnn’s and Buehler’s have been used in the past. Lowes or Home Depot maybe good possibilities in the future)
Who? (Kernel/Pack should create a sign up sheet for all dens to use to organize who will be there and when)
How to set up?
Need a table
Need money to make change with (fifty $1, ten $5 and five $10)
A sign showing prices (The pack only needs a couple of these yet every den seems to make them)
At least one take order form for things you sell out of and people want to order
Get Show and Sell popcorn
What to do
Popcorn samples. (Limited success in the past. It is fun for the boys though, maybe one tin per sale day)
Do you want to do individual sale of microwave popcorn and break up 30 packs into there individual 6 packs. If you do this please be aware that someone will be responsible for purchasing what does not sell.
Boys should be in Class A uniforms.
Limit the number of boys during any time slot. Two or three seems to be good at one time.
Order show and sell popcorn
September - Pack meeting
Popcorn Kernel and Cub Master present Popcorn sale to pack parents
Stress how this is our big fund raiser and effects how much we can do the rest of the year
Stress how important the dates on the timeline are.
Stress that these are dates that can not be moved.
October
Pick up show and sell popcorn
Dens do Show and sell
The Den Leaders record how much popcorn they take and how much they return.
The Den Leaders give the Show and Sell money to the Kernel after the event and turn in the records of how much they sold and returned.
The Kernal records how much each den sold and how much they took in as donations.
The Popcorn Kernel gives the money to the treasurer.
Den Leaders encourage the boys during den meetings to sell popcorn. (Details below)
End of October
Den leaders
Collect the take order sheets from boys.
Double check boys sheets.
Copy the take order sheets.
Enter information into den spreadsheet.
If the den leader does not have access to Excel
Popcorn Kernel should print out the spread sheet for them
The Den leader fills it in so the Kernel only has to key the totals.
Turn in popcorn sheets and the spreadsheets (electronic form where possible) to Popcorn Kernel.
The kernel with several helpers check over individual popcorn sheets. This will be the third time they are checked. (Boy and parents, Den leader and Popcorn Kernel) Shortages are nearly impossible to fix and overages the pack has to pay for.
Popcorn Kernel turns in take orders to the district
Popcorn Kernel gets check from the treasurer for show and sell popcorn and turns it into the district
November
Organize take order Popcorn pick up.
Where will the popcorn be distributed from?
Who will help pick it up from the district?
When should the den leaders pick up the Popcorn?
Are there any individuals that sold a great amount of popcorn that should be picked up by the scout? More than 50 (a guess) items perhaps?
Den leaders collect the money from the boys.
Popcorn Kernel collects the money from the Den Leaders
The Popcorn Kernel turns the money over to the Treasurer.
The Treasurer cuts a check which the Popcorn Kernel gives to the district.
