2014

For many years the Colony Cemetery Association has been holding an annual homecoming for the welfare of the Colony Cemetery.  The latest gathering was held on May 4, 2014.

The Cemetery Association is led by President J.J. Beck and fellow officers, vice-president Karen Monsen, treasurer Etta Brown, secretary Amy Beck, and cemetery lot coordinator Irv Davis.  The meetings serve to keep everyone updated on the caretaking of the cemetery and to expand the financial support necessary for care of the cemetery now and in the future.

The day is also one of fellowship among those with family members buried in the cemetery.  Jerry Parker led the group in grace before they shared a delicious pot-luck lunch.  During the business meeting President Beck thanked everyone who helped to make the day a success.  He commented on the attractiveness of the cemetery with many new floral arrangements and American flags on the graves of the veterans.  Etta Brown presented a financial report of operating expenses and reported on the status of the endowment fund.  Amy Beck reported on the newsletters that had been sent and the donations that had been collected as a result.

Renovations to the church building were a topic of discussion.  The building has recently been treated for termites, and two contractors have presented bids for various repairs.  Funding for these renovations will be provided by the funds accumulated through fundraisers at the Brown family reunions specifically for this purpose.

The Colony Homecoming will be held again on the first Sunday in May 2015.
