Colony Homecoming

On Sunday May 6, about 50 people gathered for the 2012 Colony Cemetery Association annual Homecoming.  They met at the Colony Church, located on Highway 95 north of Flatonia, to visit and to participate in the annual business meeting of the Association.

After lunch, President J.J. Beck called the meeting to order, and a moment of silence was observed in honor of those who were not with us.

Secretary Amy Beck read the minutes, and Treasurer Etta Brown provided a written financial report. Two new officers of the Association were announced.  Karen Monsen will serve as Vice President, and Irv Davis will serve as cemetery manager.  President Beck reported on the status of the endowment fund.  The money, which has been temporarily invested in a short-term CD, will soon be re-invested in a secure mutual fund.

Addresses are being collected so that a fundraising letter can be sent to ask for donations.

Suggestions were made about maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery.  Irv Davis said that he would like to develop a list of people who can be contacted about volunteer workdays.  A question can be added to the mail out asking about willingness to volunteer.

Lois and John Chaney, who were in attendance, were recognized as the last couple to have been married in the Colony Church. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The Colony Homecoming will be held again on the first Sunday in May 2013.
