2011

On Sunday, May 1, about 50 people gathered for the annual Colony Homecoming.  They met at the Colony Church building to share a potluck lunch and to participate in the business meeting of the Colony Cemetery Association.

Lois Irene Elsner returned grace before the lunch was shared.  After lunch President J.J. Beck called the meeting to order.  A moment of silence was observed in honor of who were not with us.

Secretary Amy Beck read the minutes, and Treasurer Etta Brown provided a treasurer’s report.  She reported that the company that had held the money market account had declared bankruptcy, but, because the account was FDIC protected, the money was safe and has been invested in a new short-term CD.  Donations are needed to cover cemetery expenses until the account can again produce income.

A contact list of addresses was distributed for corrections and additions.  President Beck reported that he had created a cemetery web site that can be viewed at

https://sites.google.com/site/colonycemetery.  Included in the site are a list of gravesites, photos of the monuments, a copy of the original deed to the property, minutes from past annual meetings, and the information that was used to obtain the historical marker designation.

The Colony Homecoming will be held again on the first Sunday in May 2012.
