Alexander Millar

One of the founders of the Pembroke Southern Railway.

Born 1845-04-25 in Glasgow, Scotland, immigrated to Pembroke, Canada on 1863-11-14, still alive in 1915 [PembrokeCNC].

Employed for a year by Messrs. Millar and Johnston, but started a general store with his brother, John P when Millar and Johnston dissolved in 1864. The store burned in 1865, leaving the brothers to start again from scratch. John left the business in 1881, but Alexander continued with general merchandise until the great fire of 1908 wiped out the business [PembrokeCNC].

Manager of the Pembroke Milling Company from 1895 until at least 1915 [PembrokeCNC].

Member of the Board of Education for 25 years.[PembrokeCNC]
