Fruit Ripening Times

The ripening times in the table below are for our west-facing orchard at 750' elevation outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. Our orchard gets roughly 12 hours of sun on June 21. On average our trees have taken 4-5 years to produce their first fruit, and 1-2 years more for a first "crop".

These dates are actually extremely variable, moving a few weeks earlier or later depending upon the weather during the summer. Generally, a sunny summer means that fruit ripens earlier, but not all varieties seem to be affected in the same way. Not all the late ripening varieties have enough warmth to ripen all years in our orchard.
