Clair 9

Clair 9 in our our orchard Aug. 27, 2019

Bred by Clair Lammers of Fairbanks. This is a small to medium size apple (up to 2.5"), green with red blush and greenish flesh. The trees are is fairly slow growing, putting on less than a foot per year of growth, and have strong branches, this would make it a good choice for smaller locations, or people not wanting a tall tree. The fruit is excellent to eat out of hand, sweet and crisp with that special fresh apple taste that you just can't get at the grocery store. The fruit usually ripens mid to late September in Fairbanks, and has stored well in the fridge until Christmas. So far it has been undamaged by Fairbanks winters, and while slightly smaller and not as prolific as Clair 4, it is a much better tasting apple, and one of our favorites. We will be planting more of these.
