Eqholyte at work

We are happy to be working with you!

Please read this page carefully - it has important information and tips.

The things mentioned are not technical - they are basic computing skills that any professional translator should know.

We will be glad to answer any questions you have to help get you started - the faster you can do all of these things, the more work we can assign you!

We expect Eqholytes to:

  • Have internet access and check their email frequently (e.g. 1-2 times per day).

  • Know how to zip and unzip a file.

  • Know how to use Google WorkSpace

  • Download Accelerator (http://www.speedbit.com) to resume broken downloads).

  • Know how to open a PDF file (you can download Acrobat Reader here: https://get.adobe.com/reader).

  • Know how to use SmartCat (see instructions file “ SmartCat Guideline”).

  • Have some version of Word with fonts in their language (we can try to help you find these).

Working Procedure

1. A Project Manager (PM) will first contact you regarding a job.

2. If you agree to do the job and are available, the PM will send you the working file(s), instructions, and Contractor Purchase Order (CPS).

The CPS specifies the amount to be paid and the deadline for the job (the CPS is in PDF format; if you are not familiar with PDF, please download Adobe Reader from https://get.adobe.com/reader/

3. Always follow instructions and contact the PM if you have any questions.

4. Upon completion of the job, we require contractors to send us an invoice for each job. It can be sent by email or fax. An invoice template is included in the “Newcomer Kit”.

Tips and Reminders

1. Work will be conducted by email with job files sent as e-mail attachments or by ftp.

2. Sending faxes is useless, as we must always have the file in electronic form.

3. Please get an e-mail address OTHER than Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com.

Even with the larger mailbox sizes on these accounts we still find emails often bounce causing delays in communication. If you have Hotmail or Yahoo, please open another account somewhere so we have a fail-safe way to communicate. It is best to have a couple of accounts just in case. One free email service that is quite good is http://www.gmail.com

4. Please get a Hangout ID or Skype.

This is an instant messenger that will allow us to communicate instantly and save on phone bills.

5. If you do not get a purchase order within 3 days of being assigned work, contact your Project Manager (PM) immediately and ask for one.

6. Test jobs are important!

If we are having you translate a test job, please take your utmost care and ask questions of your PM if there is anything unclear. The successful completion of a test job can result in much more future work from the client for you.

7. Please keep us up-to-date with your latest contact info (e-mail, home phone, mobile phone), and check your e-mail often! If you can be contacted easily, it is more likely that you will be given work :)

To update your contact info, please e-mail grm@eqho.com
