Parent Information

Parent and Carer opportunities

Unity City Academy places strong emphasis on working together with parents and carers. We offer a range of parent and carer programmes, workshops and coffee mornings throughout the academic year. We aim to provide a range of services that encompass both educational and practical sessions, as well as opportunities for parents to share their own knowledge and expertise and gain support from one another.

Workshops

During the year we offer a range of workshops to support the work done in the Academy around communication, socialisation and independence. These include cooking on a budget, slow cooking, teen talk and family links training. Please contact the Academy and ask to speak with Jack Banks for more information.

Contraband Items

The Government guidance states that a child's healthy, balanced diet should consist of: plenty of fruit and vegetables; plenty of unrefined starchy foods; some sources of protein; some milk and dairy foods and a small amount of food and drink high in fat, sugar and salt. Although we have seen major improvements, we still have students bringing in large amounts of unhealthy food, these include: energy drinks; family size packets of crisps; excessive amounts of chocolate and sweets. These foods have a direct impact on student learning as well as the adverse effects on their health. Therefore, such items are banned from the Academy. As a result of this, students are only allowed to bring in a bottle of water, one small chocolate bar (60g) and one small packet of crisps (50g). Any students caught bringing in more than the allowance will have them confiscated and not returned. If students bring a packed lunch to school, please ensure that the meal represents the healthy, balanced diet suggested by the guidance above.

Smoking / e-Cigarettes

Schools and colleges do not allow smoking anywhere in their grounds. You must also be 18 or over to use or purchase cigarettes, e-cigarettes or e-liquids in the UK. Any students found with cigarettes or e-cigarettes on their person will have them confiscated and disposed of.
