In the Art & Technology Department, we aim to develop an exciting, technical and contemporary curriculum which inspires and generates creative thinkers and future innovators.

AQA GCSE Art, Craft & Design

If you enjoy: developing your visual skills being creative, enthusiastic and imaginative visits to galleries, museums, workshops and studios experimenting and taking risks with your work then our GCSE Art and Design is the ideal subject for you.

Students are required to work in one or more area(s) of fine art, listed below:

  • drawing

  • painting

  • sculpture

  • photography

  • printmaking

  • mixed media


What will you study as part of this course?

The qualification is built around a common core of two areas,

Component 1: Portfolio worth 60%

Component 2: Externally Set Assignment worth 40%

How is the course assessed?

Component 1:

Internally set and marked.

Component 2:

Externally set theme and internally marked. Assessed through controlled assessment.

Each component is assessed separately out of 80 marks. You will be assessed using 4 assessment objectives of develop, review/experiment, record and present.


What qualifications could you achieve?

A GCSE qualification graded between 0 -9.


What further career options and pathways are available to you after this course?

On completion of a GCSE Art and Design course, you could progress to further education.
