Eduqas - Level 1/2 Vocational Award

The Vocational Award in Construction and the Built Environment (Technical Award) has been designed to support students in schools who want to learn about this vocational sector and the potential it can offer them for their careers or further study. It is most suitable as a foundation for further study. This further study would provide students with the opportunity to develop a range of specialist and general skills that would support their progression to employment.


What will I study?

Students will study two of the three Units:


Unit 1 (Introduction to the Built Environment) introduces students to the built environment and provides them with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding in identifying, explaining and evaluating different ideas and concepts of the built environment. Learners will explore a range of profession and trade roles, and some of the different structures and buildings of the built environment.


Students will have the opportunity to study either Unit 2 or Unit 3:


Unit 2 (Designing the Built Environment) offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the design of the built environment, including exploring what is needed to interpret and produce drafts, drawings, and models of design plans.


Unit 3:(Constructing the Built Environment) offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of three construction trade areas of the built environment, including planning, undertaking and evaluating construction tasks: • wood • brick • decoration • tiles • electrical • plumbing


How will I be assessed?

The course is spread over 2 years consisting of 2 units with an online examination.


Unit 1: Introduction to the Built Environment - This is a mandatory Unit

This unit is externally assessed through a written examination available in January/February and May/June each year. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes Number of marks: 80 Format: objective responses, short and extended answer questions based around applied situations. Learners may be required to use stimulus material to respond to questions. This assessment contributes 40% to the overall qualification grade.


Students will have the opportunity to study either Unit 2 OR Unit 3:

Unit 2:  Designing the Built Environment

This unit is internally assessed through controlled assessment available in January and May each year. This assessment contributes 60% to the overall qualification grade. 

OR

Unit 3:  Constructing the Built Environment

This unit is internally assessed through controlled assessment available in January and May each year. This assessment contributes 60% to the overall qualification grade

In this unit, students are required to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in three areas, selected from: • wood • brick • decoration • tiles • electrical • plumbing
