UNITY CITY ACADEMY CELEBRATES STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENTS

Oliver Amor achieved 5 Grade 9s and a distinction* and is excited to go onto Prior Pursglove College

Theo Russell achieved a grade 8, a grade 7 and a distinction* and is excited to go onto Prior Pursglove College

Students and staff from Unity City Academy are celebrating today after receiving top GCSE grades.

The Year 11 students who sat the exams in May and June are getting their results today, helping set their course for the future. The exams represent the culmination of their secondary school education and the grades students secure determine what they will go on and do next – further study, an apprenticeship or entry level role in the workplace.

This is the second year that exams have taken place as normal, but schools across the country are still dealing with the impact of the pandemic.

To support the Year 11 students, staff at Unity City Academy, which is part of AET – a national network of schools - laid on additional lessons after school, weekends and in holidays; bespoke timetables for all students and additional pastoral support to support their health and wellbeing.  All these efforts paid off, with students securing some brilliant results, including:

Executive Principal, Gemma Simon of Unity City Academy said:

“I am delighted for our Year 11 students – they have worked so hard and fully deserve the grades that they have achieved. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and wish them every success in their next steps for a happy and healthy future!

“A special thank you also to our phenomenal team of teachers, support staff and leaders who have supported each and every student to achieve their fullest potential.”

Zoe Bidmead, Regional Education Director for North at AET said:

“My congratulations to everyone at Unity City Academy for everything they have achieved this year.  Our Year 11s have worked so hard and shown grit and determination and have been supported so brilliantly by the entire Unity City Academy team. Particular congratulations to Oliver, Matthew, Theo and Evie for their results – I have every confidence they have very bright futures ahead of them.”

Schools Minister, Nick Gibb said:

“Pupils receiving their results in Unity City Academy, and across the country, should feel very proud today. I want to congratulate them all and express my gratitude to all of the teachers and leaders who have helped them on the way.

“GCSEs are a milestone in any young person’s life, and pupils collecting results today have the opportunity to progress onto one of many high-quality options including A levels, T Levels and hundreds of apprenticeship routes. I wish them all the best whatever they decide to do.
