The Base

Provision

Unity City Academy prides itself on our inclusive approach for all students. The Base provision at UCA provides additional support for students with specific needs in both key stage 3 and key stage 4.  Students are taught particular skills and subjects in the base area, alongside attending classes in various specialist subject areas. Our aim is to encourage all students to challenge themselves in all aspects of their school life and their social activities in order to develop transferable skills for life-long opportunities.  The base is staffed by the head of base and other members of staff.  Base students are also taught by a range of specialist subject teachers across the academy.

In key stage 3 students study core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, Humanities and Ethics. They also undertake a range of vocational subjects such as Food, Photography and Drama.   Alongside these subjects students collect portfolios of work and achieve credits towards gaining a qualification in the Life and Living Skills from OCR. This qualification offers students a range of skill areas; including pre-employability, personal and social skills.

In key stage 4 students study a variety of courses to prepare them for employment or further study at college.  This includes entry level GCSE’s in Mathematics, Science and English.  They also complete a functional skills course in ICT, together with having the opportunity to complete BTEC Tech Awards and GCSE’s in a number of vocational subjects including Health and Social Care, Art and Photography.
