Experts in AI warn the new technology poses a threat to humanity
The future of humanity is at risk. That's the message from the world's top experts in Artificial Intelligence, who released the following statement overnight: "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war."
It comes after last month's plea from hundreds of leaders in the field, calling for a pause in the technology's development to allow time for governments to catch up.
Stuart Russell has been studying AI for 40 years, advising the World Economic Forum, the UK and US governments. He spoke to 7.30's Sarah Ferguson.
