Elmwood Elementary

2022-2023
Focus Areas & Action Plans

Academic Achievement

To build academic achievement, focus on small group instruction continued throughout the year.

Training, professional development, PLCs, and ongoing collaboration centered on best practices for student success.

Instructional leadership focused on tools to build capacity for instructors. Every classroom set up reading and math learning centers. Learning targets for small group instruction derived from learning standards and assessment data to drive continuous improvement.

Writing

Fully implemented writer's workshop in all grades and every class. Through ongoing professional development and application, our teaching staff learned best practices for helping students become skilled writers.

Our students experienced success in writing. Every student ended the year with a writing portfolio to showcase their writing and thinking.

Chronic Absenteeism

In partnership with our attendance coordinator, school secretaries, and building SROs, we conducted home visits and used continuous communication to strengthen community relationships and improve attendance for students chronically absent.

Identification of transportation needs and facilitated services as appropriate for students chronically absent.

Culture & Climate

Created a calendar of opportunities to connect with families. Hosted a family movie night, Literacy Night, March Math Madness, and more.

Building-wide PBIS events for students, Monthly PBIS Assemblies, and planned celebration weeks (Bullying Prevention Week, Red Ribbon Week, etc.) to building community and diffuse joy in the learning environment.

Staff engaged with wellness partners every week to listen, help, and offer support to a colleague.
