The Secret of YYPS Graduation Camp
Introduction
As you may already be aware, as part of our school's tradition, students in P.6 will be going on a three-day, two-night graduation camp before the academic year concludes. While the excitement of the camp is palpable, it is essential to understand what activities and events are in store for the students during their stay. The graduation camp is designed to provide a unique and memorable experience for the P.6 students, filled with fun, learning, and adventure. The camp will include a range of activities, such as team-building exercises, outdoor games, and educational workshops. Let us tell you something about it!
Activities
When we first arrived at the venue we were satisfied by the amazing view and the fancy building. (Although some of the days were rainy) This camp really can make friendships stronger. We play many friendship-building games and challenge games like rock climbing, lego communication games, water balloon, etc. The water balloon game is crazy, you have to build a thing to put the balloon in. Then we use the balloon to hit others. Most of us are wet, and it is extremely exciting!
Places
The place is in the 'wild area', so there are a lot of random big, small, annoying insects that will fly, climb or do anything to annoy you. Ignoring the insects, the other places outside are pretty neat as well. There are wooden structures, sinks, and rock climbing walls of different kinds of difficulty. The inside is the complete opposite of the outside. There are big areas, halls, and dorms in the main building. There aren't many dorms, but it is pretty big and fancy. The canteen is also big and clean. They also sell cup noodles and ice cream (which was really delicious, tasty and very good). There is also a balcony that teachers allow you to go to eat at night when we are free.
At Night
At night, that’s our fun time! A lot of us talked together and played cards. In the girl's room, we were chatting and playing Uno. In the boys' room, they chat and play poker. (they also shouted so loud we could hear them even with a wall in-between, they also turned on the air conditioning at 16 degrees at midnight.😒) But most of us have a good sleep. The night is our favorite time, we can chat and play and eat cup noodles, etc. IT’S FUN!
Conclusion
P.6 Graduation camp is full of different activities, challenges, and surprises. If I can, I will go to it again. But when the Graduation camp comes, it means P.6 will soon go to secondary school. I hope I can have more wonderful memories!
Extraordinary Women from History (Rosa Parks)
This is about Rosa Parks, the mother of the freedom movement.
Rosa was born on February 4, 1913. She was born to Leona and James McCauley. Rosa was black, and back then unfair laws kept black and white people separated. Laws like the front seats on buses were only for white people.
One time when Rosa was sitting in a back seat on the bus, the bus driver told her she had to either stand up or sit further back because laws were unfair and this bus was full so the white people had nowhere to sit. But Rosa was brave, she told him that she wouldn't move. Unfortunately, due to her not following the unfair law, the police had to arrive. So Rosa had to go with the police and pay a fine. But the public was not pleased with this, especially the black citizens, they decided to have a bus boycott, it lasted more than a whole year!
Thankfully, to the resilience and harmony of all those citizens, the laws were finally changed. It was a success, but there was still a handful of work to do before the unfair laws had to be changed. Rosa Parks inspired a lot. She told us to never be ashamed of our skin color. She is known for her liberties to anti-racism. She died on October 24, 2005. She was a role model to all people and kids.
Unfortunately, even after the laws were changed, a ton of social media platforms still criticized black skin color.
Extraordinary Women from history (Amelia Earhart)
This is about Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly an airplane.
Amelia Earhart was born on 24 July 1897. She was born in Atchison, Kansas, US. Her parents were Samuel Stanton and Amelia Otis Earhart. Amelia mostly had a quiet and peaceful life as an ordinary person, that was until she decided to become a pilot.
However, this was 100 years ago, back then becoming a pilot only for men. There were only some females who were aviators. But this did not stop Amelia from chasing her dream, she learned to fly , and after that, she quickly bought a tiny yellow plane, much smaller than what we have nowadays! She called her plane, the “Canary”. She instantly set a record as the first woman to fly over 14,000 feet. She soon broke even more world records and became famous. She was well known, but she became even more famous when she crossed the Atlantic Ocean all by herself! She piloted the “Lockheed Vega 5B''. She intended to go from the United States to Paris but ended up in Northern Ireland.
After that, she started writing books and making airlines and airports popular. She was also a supporter for women's rights, she fought so that women could vote in their country’s elections. Then, she worked at a university to help other ladies who wanted to be pilots. She was a founder and president of ”The Ninety-Nines”. An Organization that helped women who wanted to be a pilot. Unfortunately, in 1937, Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan attempted to fly around the world in her airplane, they flew from Oakland to Florida, then they went to Brazil and crossed the Atlantic Ocean, and then they flew across India and, Africa, landing in Australia, but they disappeared when they were flying to Howland Island on July 2, 1937. And had been missing since. Most people think that Amelia Earhart crashed her plane into the ocean, and drowned. Some people believed that they crashed into a Japanese island and that the Japanese Navy resolved that the best idea was to kill her. And some even believe that aliens abducted her. But a handful think that actually survived and landed on an island and that they drank coconut water and caught fish to survive.
Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani female education activist and the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate at the age of seventeen. She is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate in history, the second Pakistani and the only Pashtun to receive a Nobel Prize. Yousafzai is a human rights advocate for the education of women and children in her native homeland, swat, where the Pakistani Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school. Her assistance has become a worldwide movement, and according to former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, she has become Pakistan's “most outstanding citizen”.
As the daughter of education activist Ziauddin Yousafzai, she was born to a Pashtun family in Swat and was named after Malalai of Maiwand. Considering Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Barrack Obama and also her father’s ideas and work. In 2009, when she was about eleven years old, she wrote a blog under her pseudonym Gul Makiai for the news to detail her life during the Taliban’s occupation of Swat. The coming summer, journalist Adam B. Ellick made a New York Times documentary about Malala’s life as the Pakistan Armed forces launched Operation Rah-e-Rast against the militants in Swat. In 2011, she received Pakistan’s first National Youth Peace Prize.
On the 9th of October, 2012, while on a bus in Swat district after taking an exam, Malala and two girls had been shot by a Taliban gunman in an assassination attempt targeting her for her activism for a girl’s education, later on, the gunman fled the scene. She was struck in the left temple by three bullets and remained unconscious and in critical condition at the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, but her condition improved soon enough for her to be transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham UK. The attempt on her life sparked an international outpouring of support. Weeks after the attempted assassination, a group of 50 leading Muslim clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwÄ Against those who planned and tried to assassinate her. Governments, human rights organizations and feminist groups subsequently condemned the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. In response, the Taliban further denounced Yousafzai, indicating plans for a possible second assassination attempt which the Taliban felt was justified as a religious obligation.
Yousafzai completed her secondary school education at Edgbaston High School, Birmingham England (2013-2017). Since then she claimed a place at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and undertook 3 years of study for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, graduating in 2020. She returned in 2023 to become the youngest Honorary Fellow at Lincre College, Oxford.
Our Goodbyes
This is our second last month in yyps, and our p6 yyps express team would like to leave some messages before we graduate.
We are P6, we are going to leave YYPS soon. This school is nice and the people in it are kind and helpful. We will miss all the teachers and friends we met along our journey to graduation.
Elina: I love this school. I joined many activity groups and I enjoyed them all. l know many friends and they all are friendly. I am also a Prefect, and I love the P.4 students, I will miss them! I love many teachers (although some of them are boring when teaching.) However, I'm still very upset that we have to leave the school.
Caden: It is an honor to be in this school ,YYPS, and also to be in this journalist team. I would like to encourage young students and kids to chase their dreams and never give up, no matter what kind of problems or obstacles that come in your way, just like I did. uld also encourage you to make more friends along your journey to graduation ( also remember to be a diligent, polite and nice student!) and now I have one final word to say ~ farewell!
Janet: I have so many wonderful memories in this school, the wonderful memories are mostly with my friends and classmates, obviously. I don’t have many wonderful memories of having lessons, but I really enjoy playing and talking to my friends at school.
Hayden: I have a lot of unforgettable memories throughout my 6 years in YYPS, especially participating in YYPS Express with my friends for 3 years. I've learnt a lot of values and knowledge. Although sometimes there were arguments between me and my classmates and lots of stress from SSPA, my friends supported me a lot. Don’t give up on your dreams and work hard to succeed! Your friends and teachers will always support you no matter what! (I heard that secondary school life is very tricky, nevertheless, wish me good luck)
Serena: There will be ups and downs and a few slip-ups, such as your grades falling or arguments with classmates, but don't give up! In your primary school life, you all should live your life to the fullest. While grades are important, the most important thing I’ve learnt is to make sure to have a friend circle, no matter how big or small, and spend time with them!
Great Chilean Earthquake
The Valdivia earthquake happened in 1960 it was one of the biggest earthquakes, and the research has stated 9.4-9.6 on the moment magnitude scale. The damage was brutal, the floor dragged houses up and down, and countless homes of civilians were destroyed. It happened at 7:11 p.m. (Greenwich time), and the earthquake lasted for about 10 minutes. The earthquake caused tsunamis affecting southern Chile, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, eastern New Zealand, southeast Australia, and the Aleutian Islands, the earthquake went up to 25 m (82 ft). A total of 6000 lives were lost and two million people were left homeless.
One of the survivors was Rodrigo S-C.
On that day he was 9 years old, his mom was out on that day so he was home alone. Suddenly a 9.5-magnitude earthquake hit. He said” The earthquake lasted ten minutes. That is just a minute of Bob Dylan’s Desolation Row. It felt like it lasted forever.” At that time he headed for one of the balconies that faced an avenue opposite a building, the reason for going up was to see what was happening. The vehicle had stopped, everything was waving, people were running around the streets looking for cover, and cracks were forming everywhere.
In conclusion, the people went through a lot, they lost their homes, they lost their family members. This earthquake made many lives miserable since the earthquake destroyed their homes and it could have crumbled their money.

(ALV6)Christy Wong: I felt really happy and was really surprised. It wasn't as hard as I thought to get a medal.
(WEY5)Steve Chan: I practiced for more than 20 days due to the track and field.I worked very hard and getting a medal wasn't hard for me.
(LAT5) Karlie Chan: Winning a medal is a joy for me.I think I tried my very best during the competition,Winning a medal made me excited ,my hard work paid off.Usually I do 2 to 3 days of track and field training every week.Winning a medal is hard!Because our school has a variety of sports teams, every athlete has outstanding performance.
(PIA5)Katrina Cheng: Actually even though I won a medal, instead of being happy, I felt normal unexpectedly!I think it is because I always win medals due to the school track and field team.
(JOR5)Angie Lai: Winning a medal is challenging if you don’t have enough practice. Despite the fact that I was actually quite nervous before the race, I eventually calmed down while running. After knowing that I got a medal, I felt that some weights were lifting off my arms and shoulders. In my opinion, I felt like I have already tried my best. I usually have track and field training twice a week. If you are calm and confident, then winner a medal won’t be that hard.
(PIA5)Kingsley Yung: I have maybe tried my best to win a medal. Basically, I felt surprised when they called my name and said I won the long jump event. My friends congratulated me!

(PIA5)Liann Li: I won 3 medals, I was not surprised, not to be bragging about it, but I think I always win medals which means I am always winning.
Incredible Females from History
This is about Joanne Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter Series.
Joanne Rowling was born on July 31, 1965. She was born in Yate, United Kingdom. Joanne loved reading and coming up with stories, even as a child! She would often just tell stories she made up to her little sister, Dianne Rowling. She never tried to publish anything.
One day in 1990, she was just sitting on a train, and she started to dream of a teenager who went to a magical school. That teenager was Harry Potter. But unfortunately, that exact year, Joanne Rowling’s mother died of Multiple Sclerosis. Following that, Joanne went to Portugal and became a teacher. She still imagined and wrote the Harry Potter stories on and on. While she was in Portugal, she got married to Jorge Arantes. She also had a baby girl, Jessica Isabel Rowling Arantes. However, Joanne’s relationship with Jorge did not end well because Jorge abused and neglected both his daughter and wife. So on 26 June 1995, Joanne divorced him and took her baby, Jessica to England. But Joanne could not find a job in England and things were not going well. But she did not give up and finished her first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. But after 12 publishers told her no, finally a publishing house chose to publish it, but they did not publish with the name “Joanne Rowling” as they thought boys and men would not read it because it was written by a girl. So it was published with the name JK Rowling instead.
The book eventually became a global success and that helped Joanne to write more books. And ever since, the Harry Potter books have been the best-selling book in history! Thanks to her success, she earned a ton of cash, but she decided to donate half of her wealth to an association that helped fight against child poverty and help single-parent families. After all of that, she decided to marry Neil Murray., she had 2 more kids, David and Mackenzie. Joanne has been an inspiration to all little kids, especially girls.
Yuen Yuen Connect
Have you heard of Yuen Yuen Connect? Are you a member of this team? Yuen Yuen Connect is a team that helps us to take photos at school events, for example, games day, variety shows, etc. Maybe you have heard of the short form of Yuen Yuen Connect, which is YYC. Now, in this article, we’ve interviewed the teacher who’s in charge and a member of the Yuen Yuen Connect.
The teacher who’s in charge of this team is Mr Troy Lam.
We have 16 members in Yuen Yuen Connect, they are from p4-p6. Most of the lessons are about photography and videography. Recently we hired a tutor from HKT to teach how AI helps us with research and scripting. Sometimes we have training like going out and taking photos and videos.
I think the most remarkable memory in YYC is the outing to take photos in March. We went to Chi Lok market for street snapping. They really enjoyed it and took a lot of photos on that day and some of the photos can tell the story. I really enjoy taking photos with them!!
Also, I like telling stories through photos. I enjoy observing this world through the camera's viewfinder. We can discover some things which we may not have noticed. I can say I know more about the world after I take photos! I like YYC so much. Although they're noisy sometimes, they're very active in taking photos whether it's good or not. This attitude is so appreciated.
Then we also interviewed a member of the Yuen Yuen Connect, let's see how Angel Wong in ASJ6 replied.
Hi guys, I’m Angel. And I’m a member of the Yuen Yuen Connect. Talking about the Yuen Yuen Connect, it’s always my pleasure to join this team. Since I joined this team, my life has been way more incredible than before. The teacher in charge of this team, Mr Lam, treats us very nicely. He taught us how to use cameras and equipment. Sometimes, he’ll show us some photos that he took, he’s good at taking photos and IT things. But it’s my last year in this school and also the last year to join this time, so I’m sure I’ll pretty much miss this team!
Thanks for watching!
The Plants Got Free
Characters: sunflower, tomato plant, rose, money plant, and Tom(owner of plants, also takes care of them badly)
Chapter 1: Hope
“Hey! Look! Someone’s looking at us!”, said the sunflower. The sunflower was sitting in the small flower shop set up next to a gigantic mall. “Hold up(!), I think they want to buy us!” said the sunflower again. They watched as the stranger talked to the old gardener and owner of the flower shop. The old man, using his wrinkly hands, gently picked up the sunflower, tomato plant, rose and money plant, and put them all in a bag with some, really, really smelly fertilizer. They heard the engine running, they were only a car away from their new home “I hope this is going to be fun!” said the tomato plant. Little did they know, it wasn’t going to be a fun time.
Chapter 2: A New Beginning
The first day went okay. Since they had already been given water, the new owner, named Tom, didn’t have to give them any. Their only concern at the moment was that they weren’t placed near sunlight, which was what they needed. The plants thought it was only temporary. “This is pretty nice!” said the tomato plant. The others agreed. The only one that wasn’t very sure was the rose. “Are you sure about that? I mean, they haven’t even placed us next to the sunlight, so you can’t be sure.”. The sunflower replied, “It’s probably only temporary, he might just not have time yet, he’ll move us later!”. Night came, but the plants still weren’t asleep. Mainly because they were excited but also because they were rethinking a bit. “This guy is going to treat us well, right?” asked the sunflower. “We’ll see. As I said, we can’t be sure.” replied the rose. At around 2:40 a.m. they finally managed to get some sleep. This was going to be the best day they’d have at Tom's house, the others, they wouldn’t compare to how good this day would be.
Chapter 3: Torture
Six days had passed by without any water or sunlight, and the plants grew miserable. It practically was torture to them. “How much longer will this go on for? We’re almost dead!” said the money plant weakly. “My name has the word ‘sun’ in it, I need sunlight, now!” exclaimed the sunflower. The tomato plant was so mad that it let out a scream so loud that even though plants talk so softly humans can’t hear them, even a human would probably hear a slight whisper in the wind. At the time, Tom was sitting nearby on a couch so he heard the soft scream. “Did I hear something, or was that just my hearing?” said Tom. “Oh No! He heard us!” said the money plant. The money plant was quite stupid and since he heard everyone talking in a whisper, he assumed that the humans could hear them if they talked louder. “Really? I knew you were an idiot but this bad? You’re weird.” said the rose. “Humans can’t hear us, dummy! Mr. Tomato over here was just so loud that this guy somehow heard it!” lectured the sunflower. “Sorry…” said the tomato plant.
Chapter 4: The Spill
A day later, the plants were almost dead. They lay limply on the bottom shelf where their horrible owner Tom had placed them long ago. They had learned many things in Tom's house, but probably wouldn't live to tell them. Like Tom being a secret scientist, who worked on projects that would revolutionize society. They watched as Tom placed a new potion on the top shelf. He shut the door, leaving. Sunflower jumped at the sound “ahh..!” Suddenly a potion shattered, landing directly on the plants. “Ouch!” the rose shouted. “Hey! I feel stronger than before!” the money plant said “Me too!”. The tomato plant jumped out of its pot, its roots following it out “We grew legs!” “Hooray, now we can escape! ” the money plant exclaimed. Using their long newly grown legs they jumped out of the window, escaping into the outside world.
The Risky Quest
Once, in a big but noisy city, there lived two twins, a boy and a girl, they were named Levi and Leah. Although they were twins, they were complete opposites, Levi loved messing around and hated school, especially when it came to math, Leah is the favorite child. Unfortunately, their father had died when they turned nine, leaving their mother with two kids to raise on her own.
One day, the twins’ grandmother came to visit. Growing up, Levi and Leah loved reading their grandmother’s storybook, it was their grandma’s most prized possession. When their mom was of to work, the twins’ grandma stayed behind to watch them. After school, the twins’ grandmother made them both a warm dinner, it’s been a long time since they had their grandma’s cooking,so it has been a memorable night. Before Levi and Leah went to bed, their grandmother had gifted them the storybook. The twins were supremely surprised, Levi said “Grandma, this is your prized possession of all your prized possessions! This is a huge opportunity to handle this!” Their grandmother told them that it was time for them to be given the family heirloom and pass it on to the next generations to come.
The next morning, it was time, their grandmother was about to leave, after that she said “Be brave, there will be more adventures waiting for you.” “What a random sentence to say.” Conner replied sarcastically. For the next few weeks Leah had been acting like she had seen a ghost. Levi have had enough, so he decided that he would ask Leah why she was acting so weird that evening. The sun had finally set, Levi was going to ask his his sister what was going on, but after dinner, he saw Leah in her room, staring at a painting in front of her canopy bed. Leah was whimpering as she stared at the portal summoned by the storybook, Levi froze in horror, and asked, “What in the world is going on, and Leah, what in the world is that figure in your room?” Leah shouted “Its not like it was my fault that a random portal appeared in my room!” A few seconds later, Leah’s face was already covered in tears, Levi told told her to calm down, but she just didn’t listen, and said that she wanted to go to the bathroom, it Leah accidentally crashed into the wall and fell into the portal with the story book in her hands, Levi jumped in next, only to discover that he was trapped inside a fictional world with his sister alone.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhh” Leah screamed, she and Levi both fell into a pit out of nowhere, Levi calmed his sister down until she could finally talk, then he asked “You still didn’t answer my question, what is going on?” Leah answered “Every time I open the storybook , a portal appears somewhere near me, I only opened it once, but I was shocked enough to believe that it will open itself so I brought the storybook everywhere.” “So that’s why you were holding the storybook twenty-four seven, even at dinner.” Levi said. Suddenly, there came a woman, about 18 years old only, holding a sword in her hand, that’s when the twins knew that they weren’t alone, the woman said “Friend or foe?” The twins replied “we don’t even know who you are.” “How do I know you’re not lying?” she said. “Trust us, we don’t know a thing about whatever this place is.” The twins replied. “If you don’t know me, let me introduce myself, I’m Goldilocks, the “criminal on the loose”. Leah said “No way! You're Goldilocks from “Goldilocks and the three bears?” “Who knew I was famous?” Goldilocks surprisingly said. Goldilocks shouted “Duck!” In a blink of an eye, a pack of wolves jumped on top of the twins and was about to gobble Levi up alive, “I said DUCK!” Goldilocks shouted. She fought the wolves and almost chopped their heads off, “That was close.” Levi said. At last, Goldilocks had scared of the wolves, “What was that!?” Leah screamed, like she had never before. “That was just another pack of wolves trying to kill me.” She said. “You have wolves trying to attack you every day!” Levi said, for once, he was astonished by something spoken from a stranger. “Now come on, it’s getting dark, perhaps, it wouldn’t be a good idea to wait till monsters come to eat you.” “There are monsters waiting to eat their prey! And we are one of them!” Levi said, astonished. In the evening the twins followed Goldilocks to her hidden cottage rest for the night. The next morning, Goldilocks asked the twins if they were ready to embark on a risky quest. Levi and Leah exchanged nervous glances but nodded their heads, curious about what awaited them. Goldilocks explained that there was a powerful artifact hidden deep within the Enchanted Forest, guarded by mythical creatures and treacherous obstacles. The artifact had the power to grant a single wish to whoever possessed it.
Levi, being the adventurous one, was excited about the quest, while Leah felt a mix of fear and excitement. Goldilocks assured them that she would guide and protect them throughout their journey. After a hearty breakfast, the trio set off into the dense forest, with Goldilocks leading the way.
As they ventured deeper into the Enchanted Forest, they encountered magical creatures they had only read about in fairy tales. There were mischievous sprites, wise old tree spirits, and even a talking squirrel named Chester who offered them guidance. Each encounter brought them closer to the artifact but also presented new challenges.
Levi's quick thinking and bravery helped them navigate through dangerous swamps and overcome tricky riddles. Leah's intelligence and resourcefulness proved invaluable in deciphering ancient runes and solving puzzles. Goldilocks, with her combat skills and knowledge of the forest, protected them from lurking dangers.
Days turned into weeks, and the journey became more arduous. They faced giant trolls, enchanted mazes, and even a fire-breathing dragon. But their determination and the bond they formed as a team kept them going. Despite the hardships, they found solace in each other's company.
Finally, they reached the heart of the Enchanted Forest, where the artifact awaited them. It was a shimmering crystal, pulsating with ancient magic. As they approached the artifact, a voice echoed in their minds, testing their intentions and their worthiness. They had to prove that their wish was selfless and pure.
Levi, thinking of his mother who had worked tirelessly to raise them, made a wish for her happiness and well-being. Leah, thinking of their grandmother's words about more adventures waiting for them, wished for a world where everyone had the opportunity to experience the magic of stories.
Their wishes resonated with the artifact, and a blinding light enveloped them. When the light faded, they found themselves back in their own world, the storybook in their hands. They realized that their journey had changed them, making them stronger and braver.
Levi and Leah returned home, eager to share their experiences with their mother. They knew that the real magic wasn't confined to the pages of a book or the depths of a forest but resided within themselves and the love they shared as a family.
