On the 31st of October, it is YYPS’ Halloween party! Many booths and games hold on that day. YYPS teachers hold hall games, P.6 make game booths, and some PTA parents help host special events like a haunted house, a popcorn machine, and bouncy castle.
Â
Hall Games
Mr Chappell and Mr Litchfield host the hall games. Teachers give us riddles like a mummy. The teachers give us a number and the student with the class number tries to answer the riddle. There are three hints, they are cover with pumpkin and the teachers reveal it if the student doesn't know what the answer is. The teachers give a prize to the winners!
Booths games
P.6 students make the booths. You have a card and you have to play at least 6 booths to get a prize. There are different games. The games include shooting the pumpkin, tattoos, bouncy castle, and throwing the ping pong ball to get candy. Remember to bring a big bag!
Haunted House
The Haunted House is very scary. It is scary because a lot of monsters is in it, like vampires, zombies and ghosts etc. The students is frighten by them. The PTA members created it. It will be dark with scary music and students’ screams.
The Untold Secrets of YYPS: The backstory of the swimming pool
by Janet, Hayden, Lennox, Cayden, Yoyo, Elina
Greetings, fellows from YYPS. Today we are going to find out the backstory of the Angela Leong On Kei Swimming Pool Complex. Have you ever wondered what was there before the swimming pool existed? Why does the swimming pool exist today?
So, the Angela Leong On Kei Swimming Pool Complex started being constructed in 2015 and opened in March 2018.
We held an interview with Ms. Janet Yu. She said that before the swimming pool was built, it was a basketball court. She also said that there are some reasons why Mr. Cheung, the previous principal of YYPS, also built the swimming pool. The reason why he wanted to build a swimming pool below:
We asked Ms. Yu the major reason Mr. Cheung agreed to build a swimming pool is that not many of the PLK schools have swimming pools, and Mr Cheung thought it’d be fantastic to have a swimming pool in YYPS.
Following that, Mr. Cheung also wanted to promote the activity of swimming. Letting more students be interested in swimming. The main idea was to have a complex to do different kinds of sports.Â
Third, Mr Cheung was a PE teacher before, therefore he likes sports. He wants other students to try different sports. And he wants to let the students have a healthy lifestyle.
The other question we asked Ms. Yu was why Mr. Cheung needed to move the basketball court. The reason why the basketball court doesn't have a roof is because it costs a lot. Plus, if it was an inner basketball court, they would run out of money. Since the budget is limited, they would need to think twice and manage it.     Â
The swimming pool also has three behind-the-scenes, a.k.a. THE REAL SECRETS OF YYPS,
The swimming pool boys' changing room is larger than the girls’. (We are very sure that the girls will say something about it).Â
The lockers at the swimming pool are not available. It is because the locker keys somehow disappeared. The school is managing to change new lockers soon.
The room next to the basketball court in the picture below was a tuck shop! YYPS sold food and drinks at the time! It is unbelievable, right?Â

Student Ambassadors
by CyraÂ
Student Ambassador is to guide the visitors and parents from kindergarten around the school campus. They introduce different facilities at our school. Including the activity room, swimming pool, library, classroom, steam lab. They work hard to remember the special places of the rooms they will talk about.Â
The teachers who are in charge of this team are Ms. Minnie Lai, Ms. Joyce Chang, Ms. Winnie Chang, and Ms. Wendy Huynh. In this article, we are going to interview Tanya Tang from ALV6, who is a Student Ambassador.
Interviewer: Good morning Tanya. Why did you choose to join the student ambassador?
Tanya: Good morning, I chose to be a student ambassador because I wanted to build up my confidence to talk in front of strangers.
Interviewer: Ok! Which location in our school have you introduced?
Tanya: I have introduced the swimming pool and also the activity room!
Interviewer: Wow, that sounds great! What language do you use to introduce your location?Â
Tanya: I use mandarin to introduce the swimming pool and the activity room.
Interviewer: What do you do for your practices?
Â
Tanya: I usually practice my speech with my group. We take turns to speak and we’ll give each other comments to improve and what we did well!
Interviewer: Is it difficult to introduce the facilities in front of the visitors if you are shy?Â
Tanya: It’s quite difficult for me to talk in front of about 7-10 strangers. Since I’m not really confident in talking and socializing with people.
Interviewer: Are there any difficulties you have faced?
Tanya: Yes, there is. When there was a large amount of guests, some guests were out of the line and didn’t follow the rules. My group only has 5 people, but there are 16 guests! It was a hard time for me and my group mates to make them in line and make them follow our directions. But still, me and my group mates worked together and made them follow the line directions.
Interviewer: What are the upcoming tours?
Tanya: There’s a sister school coming to our school! I’m looking forward to guiding a new school tour!
Interviewer: Thank you for your time and hope to see you soon!
Tanya: No problem!

Librarians
by Anya, Hailey, Marika, Angie, Lisa, Eyvind, Henry, Hei Yu
What is a librarian?
Librarians are students who will always help us put books on the bookshelves and warn people to be quiet. Sometimes they work at the circulation desk to help people borrow books. We need to arrange the books correctly. Sometimes we also need to help teachers return the books and scan the books to help borrow/return books. In their work, librarians research books. The duties of librarians are cataloging and keeping track of library materials, making sure all users can access library resources, and responding to requests from students, staff, and other library users. What are the 5 roles of a school librarian? What does a school librarian do? Maintain a school's library collection and resources. Provide students and staff with access to library resources and media services. Shelve books and tidy up the school library. Â
 From the students:
The reason we became interested in being a librarian is because we want to become a librarian in the future so we decided to join this to practice and improve our skills. The reason I want to become a librarian is because we want to know more about books and how to work together, so I decided to be a librarian. I want to help other people read more books, so they can be smarter and get more knowledge. And we can have some presents when we try our very best to do our job.Â
What does the badge mean?Â
The librarian's badge has a special meaning. The color green is used to symbolize rebirth renewal and immortality. The color silver has traditionally been viewed as a distinguished color – one associated with wealth, modernity, glamor, grace, and elegance. As a metal, silver also represents that which is innovative, refined, sleek, and sophisticated.
What do the teachers do in the library?
Teachers are the same as Librarians, in that they need to monitor the library and sanitize people’s hands when they come in, so the books won’t be dirty. The library teachers are Ms.Rita, Ms.Lene, and Ms.Chin… they choose librarians to reduce their burden, so librarians are very important.
Librarians have many things to do! We talked about the school badge, what library teachers do, and a lot more! They also have the same hard jobs as prefects, caring ambassadors, and BBS. Students put books everywhere after recess is over or they are finished reading, they have to clean them up for the next class in the library.Â

Reviews:
1.Being a librarian is also very hard,we have to remember where the fictional, realistic,English, traveling…we have to help people to find the books they want.
2.For me,I think being a librarian is quite easy, because we can memorize the place of the books.Like:the Chinese books are at the front of the door,English books ar beside the counter.Well, for me again, beeping the books for borrowing,is quite hard for us.You know?
The Adventures of the Magical UnicornÂ
by Florence, Chika, Hailey, Yat Sum, Jazlyn, JasmineÂ
Once upon a time, there was a unicorn called Poppi. The unicorn lived in Rainbolage. She was always cheerful and bright, but she was also a little too curious.
Lately, she heard some news from the scienscorns (scientist unicorns) that some unicorns got lost, but the policorns (policemen unicorns) could not find them anywhere in Rainbolage. Those scienscorns found out that they disappeared in a maze called Peenutsaze (the name of the maze). Poppi was very surprised. She never even thought about there being another place except for Rainbolage, hence, she wanted to go there and see. She decided to bring her friends and explore.  Â
So, Poppi, Googie Booba, and Halomelon went to Forestcorn. (Which is a forest.)Forestcorn was a very dangerous place filled with monscorwere (unicorn monsters) and policorns surrounding it. Poppi and her friends needed to be very careful. On their way to Rainbolage, they saw zombirds( zombie birds) and were rescued by policorns. After the rescue, they went to the Peenutsaze. There are peanuts everywhere, and even living peanuts and balls to put unicorns inside. Â
The maze was bigger than expected, if they accidentally stepped on a peanut, it would release sleeping gas and the victim would be asleep forever. Unless another person fed it a magical rainbow leaf, the victim wouldn't wake up.
Suddenly, Halomelon stepped on a peanut and started to get drowsy, so she began to sleep “Oh no!” Said Poppi. “Wake up! Wake up! Halomelon!” But she wouldn’t wake up. “She won’t wake up” said a mysterious voice “ I am Wakakawakaki and she will not be cured unless you find a rainbow leaf. Boil the leaf and the color of the leaf will transfer into the water. Then take out the colorless leaf and pour in the rainbow coloured water in her mouth and say something happy then she will wake up.”
So Poppi and Googie Booba off to find the rainbow leaf to cure Halomelon. Poppi called Googie Booba to find the Rainbow leaf at North and East, while Poppi will find it at South and West. A few hours later, Googie Booba cheered, “Poppi, I found the rainbow leaf!” Poppi and Googie Booba cheered happily, they boiled the leaf and poured in the rainbow coloured water into Halomelon’s mouth and said something happy to her. Soon, Halomelon woke up! Poppi told Halomelon to be careful and not to step onto any peanuts again. Soon they started on their adventure.
After a while of searching they felt very tired , the maze seemed to go on forever. So they decided to rest at the waterfall nearby. They were drinking water when they felt their stomachs hurting and realized that the water was polluted. They didn’t know what to do. Suddenly they heard a voice “Drink the water from the waterfall again and you will be healed”. The voice was familiar, it was Wakakawakaki! So they drank the water again and they were healed! They kept walking until they were so in the maze there was nowhere to go.A voice sounded behind them this time it was not Wakakawakaki it looked like the lost unicorn they had finally found them, but they were all lost now.
“Hi” said the lost unicorns “We were lost for days and you found us! As a gift, we would love to use our leftover magic to send us all home, but we only have enough to send one unicorn home!” “I know how, we should combine our magic together!” Poppi suggested. So Poppi, Googie Booba, Halomelon and the lost unicorns combined their magic and… Boom! In a flash, they were in Rainbolage and all safely returned home. “Well, this was quite an adventure, “ said Poppi. Looks like these unicorns were not going to forget about this amazing trip but they still have a lot to learn and a lot of unanswered questions. Who really was Wakakawakaki and how did he know so much about the Peenutsaze?Â
“ We created Wakakawakaki,” said the lost unicorns suddenly “ And we are actually unicorn fairies, You have passed our test you guys are worthy to become the magical fairies too!” So, they became the magical fairies and lived happily ever after.
